Position Summary
The Energy Efficiency Specialist I/II will be a technical lead for Power TakeOff’s two key utility offerings: our Virtual Commissioning (VCx) and Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) programs, as well as provide technical support for other new energy management initiatives. This role will be a central knowledge expert for HVAC, controls, and energy efficiency best practices; advising customers at large commercial, institutional, and manufacturing sites on optimal controls to uncover deep, low/no-cost energy efficiency opportunities.
An Energy Efficiency Specialist II would also leverage past experience to be an expert technical resource supporting other new Demand Side Management (DSM) programs or offerings, and may have some independent direct work with customers.
This role is part of Power Takeoff’s internal Technical Team, and you will report to the Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager within Power TakeOff’s Portfolio Management team.
Specialist I Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Work alongside Energy Advisors and vSEM coaches to analyze interval energy usage data, identify key drivers of energy use, and discover low and no-cost energy savings measures at customer facilities. Help the vSEM coaches develop technical material for the ongoing vSEM workshops.
- Technical Resource Development and Training: Contribute to research and documentation to help shape internal resources and best practices for technical engagement. Monitor the performance of Energy Advisors, collaborating with the Technical Team manager to identify training needs and opportunities for professional development.
- Measurement and Verification (M&V): Partner with the internal M&V team to evaluate and communicate performance results; in some cases, assisting Energy Advisors and vSEM Coaches with resolving technical issues with the customer.
- Training and Professional Development: Learning & training on additional technical skills to prepare to be a dynamic contributor to other programs outside of vSEM.
Specialist II Additional Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Review past projects to identify trends and lessons learned. Provide expert technical guidance and troubleshooting for complex issues as they arise.
- Contribute to Training and Professional Development: Collaborate with team members to develop internal resources and best practices for technical engagement, as well as training materials for non-technical staff. Contribute to technical trainings in retro-commissioning and energy efficiency for other technical team members. Ongoing learning & training on additional technical skills to prepare to be a dynamic contributor to VCx and vSEM, and other programs.
Specialist I Key Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years experience in implementing solutions for energy efficiency, facilities HVAC management, BAS controls programming, HVAC design, energy advising, Utility DSM program delivery, or SEM coaching for large commercial facilities or institutions/campuses. Preference will be given for candidates with on-site field experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, lighting) is required. Substantial knowledge of industrial / manufacturing facility operations is also strongly preferred.
- Skills: Excellent facilitation and communication abilities for presenting technical material to non-technical audiences. Strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation. Exceptional project management skills. Working proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM tools.
- Education: A bachelor's degree in science or technology is strongly preferred.
- Certification: CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE, or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Interest and passion for energy efficiency consulting & making a positive difference.
- Must be comfortable working independently in a 100% virtual environment.
Specialist II Additional Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years experience in implementing solutions for energy efficiency, facilities HVAC management, BAS controls programming, HVAC design, energy advising, Utility DSM program delivery, or SEM coaching for large commercial facilities or institutions/campuses. Preference will be given for candidates with on-site field experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Technical working proficiency with commercial HVAC systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, lighting) and controls programming in various BAS platforms is required.
- Skills: Excellent facilitation and communication abilities for presenting technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficient skills with Salesforce or similar CRM tools.
- Certification: CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE, or equivalent certification is required.
Location and Travel
Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. However, many employees are based in two hubs in the areas around Denver, CO and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these two hubs is desired but not required, and relocation assistance will not be provided for the position. This position is eligible for employment in the United States.
Travel is not expected for this position. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any such travel.
Compensation and Benefits
The total expected base salary range for employees residing in the U.S. is between $70,000 - $95,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
