Reports to: Chief Technology OfficerPreferred location: Albuquerque, NM preferred; Salt Lake City, UT or Sand City, CA considered. Travel to Burbank, CA manufacturing and to field sites as needed.Classification: Full-Time, Exempt Company Overview GroundWork Renewables is the solar industry’s trusted full-stack performance partner. A Certified B Corporation and ISO-accredited testing provider, we deliver precise MET data and PV module insights—helping developers, EPCs, and asset owners reduce risk, improve forecasting, and maximize value throughout the project lifecycle. Our services have enabled 1,000+ solar measurement campaigns, helping project developers secure billions in financing by reducing uncertainty with trusted resource data. Backed by a recent strategic investment that positions us for accelerated growth, GroundWork is expanding its U.S. operations. Position Summary GroundWork builds industrial-grade instrumentation electronics with embedded IoT connectivity and precision data acquisition, built for utility-scale solar sites. Your job is to validate the designs, demonstrate reliability, get them certified, make them efficiently manufacturable, and stand up production with our contract manufacturers. This is a hands-on technical role. You will validate the design work with an existing small group of engineers, run the reliability test programs, work with contract manufacturers, and make the call when a failure analysis points to a change in course. You will work directly with our firmware, data, and field teams, and with our ISO/IEC 17025 test lab in Albuquerque for environmental and performance testing. Key Responsibilities Own design validation: define requirements, build test plans, and run DVT on power, analog/DAQ, and RF subsystems. Refine power electronics and precision analog front ends for voltage and high-current sensing, including noise, drift, and calibration budgets. Run reliability and environmental programs: thermal cycling, damp heat, UV, etc. Set acceptance criteria, analyze failures, and feed results back into the design. Lead certification through NRTLs and test labs: UL 1741, UL/IEC 61010, FCC Part 15 and carrier certification for cellular radios, CE, and IP rating. Own the test plan, the documentation package, and the schedule. Drive DFM/DFT: BOM cost-down, component lifecycle and second-source risk, design reviews with contract manufacturers, test fixture and end-of-line test definition. Oversee PCB fabrication and assembly vendors: analyze tolerance stackups, IPC class and acceptance criteria, first-article inspection, yield ramp, and corrective action. Maintain the technical record: schematics, layout, BOMs, test reports, and change control that would survive a customer or financier audit. Qualifications & Experience BS in Electrical Engineering or related field; 5+ years in hardware product development, at least 3 taking sophisticated electronics from prototype to production. Precision analog and data acquisition experience: high-voltage/high-current sensing, signal conditioning, ADC selection, noise and drift budgets, calibration strategy, and isolation. Embedded IoT hardware experience: MCUs, cellular/LoRa/Wi-Fi modules, sensor interfaces, low-power design. Owned reliability and environmental test programs (thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, HALT/HASS) and closed the loop on failures. Led certification through NRTL and standards bodies: UL 1741, UL/IEC 61010 or 62368, FCC Part 15, C, IP ratings, or similar. Familiarity with single-fault safety and hardware-only protection. DFM/DFT ownership: BOM cost-down, component lifecycle risk, design reviews with contract manufacturers. Oversight of PCB fab and assembly vendors: stackup, IPC Class 2/3 acceptance, test fixtures, first-article and yield ramp. Fluent in Altium or KiCad; comfortable in Python for test automation and data analysis. Preferred Solar or outdoor instrumentation background (irradiance, IV measurement, weather-station hardware). Field deployment experience at utility-scale sites. Prior startup-to-scale role. How we will evaluate We care what you have shipped. Expect to walk us through one product you took from prototype to production: what broke in reliability testing, what the certification lab found, what the CM pushed back on, and what you changed. Travel: 20–25% to Burbank and field sites GroundWork is a Certified B Corporation and proud equal opportunity employer.
